How to Choose Ceilings for Decorative Buildings

Ceilings are a rather tricky building decoration material. In fact, when it comes to home decoration, there are two opposing views on ceilings: the "ceiling advocates" and the "ceiling opponents". For the "ceiling opponents", their hesitation is nothing more than a lack of familiarity with ceiling materials. They have always thought that ceilings are merely decorative and serve no practical purpose.

This perception is actually incorrect. As people's requirements continue to increase, ceiling materials have been constantly upgraded over the years. From the bulky gypsum boards in the past to the current multi-functional calcium silicate ceilings that are lightweight, fire-resistant, sound-insulating and heat-absorbing, fiber cement board ceilings have also become popular in the market. A slightly thinner specification of fiber cement board is sufficient for ceiling use, and it boasts excellent performance.

When choosing ceiling decoration materials, we generally need to consider three aspects: first, the aesthetics of the pattern. It is advisable to choose elegant and soft colors that give people a sense of spaciousness and elegance; bright and gaudy colors should be avoided as they tend to dazzle people. Second, the price should be affordable. Third, the performance such as thermal insulation, sound absorption, flame retardancy and heat insulation should meet the needs.

In previous years, people preferred decorative pattern-based materials, such as dragon and phoenix gypsum sound-absorbing boards. In recent years, however, the trend has shifted towards multi-functional ceiling decoration boards that emphasize decoration, thermal insulation, sound absorption, flame retardancy and heat insulation.

At present, the most popular ceiling decoration boards include mineral wool sound-absorbing boards, plant fiber sound-absorbing boards, rigid perforated sound-absorbing boards and calcium silicate ceilings. Their common feature is multi-functionality.

Mineral wool sound-absorbing boards have the advantages of water resistance, sound absorption, heat insulation, thermal insulation and light weight. They can be planed, sawn and nailed, making construction convenient. Elegant and magnificent, they are high-grade decorative materials, favored by families with spacious houses who want a more luxurious interior decoration.

Rigid perforated sound-absorbing boards and plant fiber boards are more widely popular and are regarded as ideal ceiling decoration materials. These two types of decorative boards belong to mid-to-low-grade products, and their prices are half to two-thirds cheaper than the aforementioned mineral wool sound-absorbing boards. Except for slightly inferior luster and thermal insulation performance, their other functions are basically the same as those of mineral wool sound-absorbing boards.
