Fiber Cement Board: board, Notch, and Rear Bolt Hole Processing Guidelines

Date:2023-12-18 Views:420

For curtain wall installations, fiber cement boards are widely used. To ensure an aesthetically pleasing result and compliance with construction standards, proper handling of the board, notches, and rear bolt holes is essential. Below are some key guidelines compiled for your reference.

Panel processing requirements

1 All cutting, grooving, and drilling of fiber cement boards must be performed in a dry environment.

2 Specialized machinery and equipment shall be used to ensure processing quality and accuracy.

3 Cutting operations produce a significant amount of dust. Adequate protective measures must be taken, and effective dust removal procedures shall be implemented.

4 After cutting or grooving, all board edges must be treated with waterproofing, such as by applying 23 coats of silicone water repellent.

Notch processing requirements

1 Notching shall be performed using specialized mechanical equipment. The cutting blades must be kept sharp. On-site notching with handheld tools is not permitted.

2 The width, length, and position of all notches must comply with design specifications.

3 Notch edges must be free from damage, chipping, or cracking. Grooves shall be smooth, clean, and free of any visually noticeable steps or irregularities.

4 Dimensional tolerances for fiber cement board notches shall conform to the specifications in the following table

The Project Width of slot Length of slot Depth of slot Distance from trough end to short side of board Distance from groove edge to board surface
Allowable deviation +0.5

Short slot:+10.0

Rear Bolt Hole Processing Requirements

1 Rear bolt holes must be drilled using machinery specifically designed for use with the corresponding rear bolt system.

2 Any rear-surface texture that may interfere with bolt connection must be ground smooth. The ground area shall present an even, flat surface.

3 The quantity, location, and depth of rear bolt holes shall strictly comply with design specifications. Drill and ream diameters must meet the technical requirements of the rear bolt product.

For flush rear bolts connected directly to the board back, the drilling depth shall be controlled based on the distance from the curtain wall decorative surface to the hole bottom.

For spacer-type rear bolts connected via an adapter, the depth shall be controlled based on the distance from the visible surface to the bottom of the connector.

4 Rear bolts may be installed by pressing or rotating. The tightening torque must comply with the bolt manufacturers specifications. After installation, verify that the connection is secure and performs reliably.

5 Rear bolt holes must be free of damage or cracks, with smooth and clean interiors.

6 Allowable dimensional tolerances for rear bolt hole processing shall conform to the following table.

Project Diameter of aperture Hole reaming Depth of hole

Distance of heart
